KOHO YAMAMOTO
New York City
“Be Bold!” Koho told me, “Make mistakes…Dive into it.” Referring to painting Japanese calligraphy. This certainly is a Life Lesson.
Today we celebrate the 100th birthday of Koho Yamamoto. 4/14/2022
As a child living in an internment camp on the West coast during World War 2, Koho found a way to express herself through a brush made from her own hair. Without traditional Sumi ink, Koho created ink out of ash from the fires they used to cook and keep warm in the camp.
This kind of freedom and imagination appear in all of her paintings and the way Koho lives her life.
